When you want to improve your overall golf game, focusing on your short game is an excellent place to start.

For professional golf tuition in Hemel Hempstead, Little Hay Golf Complex is the perfect place to go. With PGA professional Lee Jordan based at the complex, you'll have access to expert advice and guidance to help you develop your game. Here, Lee has put together his top five tips on how you improve your short game.
By taking advantage of Lee’s advice, you can work on your technique, form, and skill, and ultimately become a better golfer.
1. Have a narrow stance
When hitting short shots around the green, it's essential to have a narrow stance. This will allow you to maintain your balance and control the direction of the shot.
2. Position the ball inside your left heel
Another critical aspect of hitting accurate short shots is ball placement. Placing the ball inside your left heel allows you to hit down on the ball and generate the necessary spin to control the shot's distance.
3. Use a putting setup
This means you will be nearer the ball. Unlike full shots, short shots require a slightly different setup. You should stand closer to the ball, with your hands nearer your body, to promote a more controlled stroke.
4. Put weight on the left leg for the duration of the swing
Weight distribution is crucial when hitting shots around the green. For the best results, keep the majority of your weight on your left leg throughout the swing. This will allow you to maintain a consistent strike and avoid mishits.
5. Move the club straight back and forth
Finally, it's essential to focus on hitting the ball first when hitting short shots. A straight back and forth swing path allows you to make clean contact with the ball and generate the necessary spin and control to make your shots land where you want them.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player, the tips that Lee has provided are an excellent starting point for improving your short game. By practising regularly and focusing on your form, you can build up your skills and become a more confident player.
